Mary Holden

Mary learnt to ring at Cirencester in Gloucestershire in 1990, taught by her parents. In 1998 she went to university in Durham where she joined the University Society and also did a lot of ringing with Cumberland members in the North East. Mary joined the Cumberlands in 2002 during her final year at university.

Mary moved to London in 2006 and since then has been a regular attender at Wednesday practices. She was Treasurer for three years from 2006 before being elected Master in 2009, a post she held for a year. After a year off from the committee Mary has returned as Senior Steward.

Mary is a Chartered Accountant and works for Grant Thornton UK LLP.

What does the Senior Steward do?

The Senior Steward is involved in the ringing side of the Society, being a regular attender of London practices where they help ensure things run smoothly (not least by booking all the towers!) and deputise for the Master. The Senior steward undertakes ad-hoc organising of peals and gets involved with events like NTDD. Other ringing related tasks often fall to the Senior Steward, such as organising special practices and peals.
