Simon Holden

Simon was elected Master at the Society's AGM in October 2005 and is now serving his third and final year in office. Prior to being elected Master, Simon was Junior Steward for 1 year, having been elected a member of the Society in 2003 whilst ringing in London. He was taught to ring in Cirencester by his parents in 1990 and now rings with the band at St Mary Abbots, Kensington. Simon has rung about 450 peals.

Since Simon was elected a member, he has done much to destroy the myth that Cumberlands are orange juice drinkers.

He works for Royal Mail, in their Regulation department. When not ringing peals of Stedman he can often be found playing poker or cooking oversize meals.

What does the Master do?

The Master is responsible for running ringing (principally at Wednesday night practices), chairing business meetings ad organising peals on country meetings. It falls to the Master to preside over the annual dinner and represent the Society at other events. The Master is also responsible for organising the Society's 12-bell entry. More widely, the role is about keeping an overview of everything that is going on in the Society - encouraging people to get involved and offering advice and support to people who are organising SRCY events. It is common to organise a few peals too!
