Not The Dinner Day 2018

There are not many societies that would bother to mark they fact they are not having a dinner by ringing peals, however since 1994 the Cumberlands have done just that, and 2018 was no exception. The traditional format of peals and a curry was followed once again with the evening function at the Bangalore close to Cornhill in the city.

During the day there were five peal attempts, of which four were successful, an attempt at Spitalfields unfortunately coming to grief towards the end. It was particularly pleasing to see the society's two youngest members taking part in two peals during the day, making the most of the opportunities provided.

Peals were followed by a few drinks in the Crosse Keys before just over 50 members and friends sat down for a curry. The assembled company made the most of the discount available on drinks and the refills of curry as we ate. An excellent evening was enjoyed by all. Thanks must go to the Senior Steward for his excellent arrangements for the towers, the Assistant Secretary for all her work arranging the evening venue and of course to the Master for ably accommodating specific requests for peals and ensuring the best chance of success for those ringing.
