Society of Royal Cumberland Youths

Promoting excellence in ringing around the world

Welcome Guest

2013 AGM Day

AGM Day was held on a warm autumnal day with 4 peals being rung in the morning, with the details of these peals below.

After the morning peals there was some general ringing at St Martin-in-the-Fields before we descended to the St Martin's Hall for our back-to-back meetings (Business Meeting followed by the AGM). It always surprises me the number of people who are wandering around in the crypt peer down through the glass to see us having our meetings - I always wonder why this seems to be such an interesting spectator sport since they can't hear anything!

We remembered Rosemary Palmer who died at the end of August. We also welcome three new members: James E Blackburn, T David Westmoreland and Peter J Routier. Peter Harrison was although thanked for his work on the SRCY website for the last 7 years, as he is about to return to Australia. We also discussed (sometimes at length) some finer points of the agenda, but eventually we came out of the first meeting unscathed. After a short break we had the AGM. This has a little more discussion than previous years. Firstly we welcomed two new Officers: Tom Mack and Heather Forster. We also said thank you to Mary Holder and Ian Mills who are both standing down as being Officers. Members were reminded by the Treasurer about the state of our accounts and this started another discussion. One thing for members everywhere to remember is that the Newsletter takes a lot of money to produce, so donations to this (or anything else) are always gratefully received. We were also informed of a letter from the Central Council about ringing for the Centenary of World War I. Rather than JJ reading out the URL, the document can be found here.

After the meetings had finished we only had time to head straight for Chinatown (always a fun experience on a Saturday night) and go straight to our restaurant for a Chinese meal that Penny Sharpe had organised for us. In our cosy surroundings we got to discuss all that had been going on, and catch up with some people we may not have seen for a while. Some people had long journeys ahead of them so had to leave to get their trains, while a few others made their journeys a bit longer by visiting The Harp on their way home for some more refreshments. We reflected that it had been an enjoyable day out. Thank you to all of those who made it happen.

Postscript

I just wanted to say something with my Webmaster's Hat on for the last time. I would like to thank the Society for the kind gifts and card I was presented at the Business Meeting on AGM Day - I was not expecting it! I would also like to say thank you for the kind words that were said at the meeting, plus those that people have said to me directly.

I have enjoyed working on the website and making it grow and stay fresh. But this would not have been possible without the involvement by the membership. The write ups by various members for all the events keep it interesting as we always get to see a different perspective of the events.

Thank you for all your support over the year. I hope that you give Richard Hobbs and Chris Griggs the same support as they take over the running of the website.
