Results of SRCY vs ASCY striking competition
This year it was our turn to host the striking competition with the ASCY, and this was held at St Martin in the Fields on Wednesday 7th April. There was general ringing from 6.30, with over 40 people in the tower, followed by the three legs of the competition. These were rung on 6, 8 and 12 bells, with each society nominating a judge for each touch. The ringing followed the now traditional, if slightly daunting, format of having the opposition in the ringing chamber during the test piece!
All parts of the competition were closely contested, and when the results were given in the pub afterwards it was revealed that the ASCY had won the 6 bell, with the SRCY taking the 8 bell. The results of the 12 bell were therefore anxiously awaited, only for the judges to reveal they had been unable to agree on a winner and had called a tie! This meant that the competition ended in a draw, with one win apiece.
With a number of regular Wednesday attendees away on Easter holidays, it was great that 23 members turned out to represent the Society. Thanks to everyone who rang or judged, and also to Liz Hibbert for help with arrangements at St Martin's.
