Update from the East
Firstly a reminder that the next Eastern practice is nearly upon us. The next "soiree" is on the new 10 at Gressenhall on 5th June at 7:30pm. Erin Caters and London Royal are the 2 methods I would like to focus on if at all possible.
On Sunday 18 May in the afternoon/evening 19 of us met in and around Bury St Edmunds. Two simultaneous quarters were rung at 2:30pm, the Norman Tower (Stedman Caters) and Horringer (Cambridge Major - Richard Turk's first on 8 as conductor). We then all met in a hotel car park (well, all except "Russell The Navigator") and divided into 3 teams of 6 to ring quarters at West Stow (Ipswich - called by a Norwich City supporter!!!), Great Barton (Cambridge - blissfully uneventful) and Tostock (Norwich - ask Phil Orme about it). Having worked up an appetite and a thirst, we retired to The Tollgate in Bury to compare notes, slake our thirsts and fill our bellies with good grub. It was a fun afternoon with good ringing, good beer, good food and an excellent spirit enhanced by the teamwork that typifies our practices.
Brother Rivett of Clifton "wants to go to the seaside on a sunny day, ring a bit, and to have a barbecue on the beach." Good - that should keep him out of the way while we go off and have fun elsewhere!!! Seriously - we spoke about Sundays in September and possibly trying to go to Kings Lynn and a beach at somewhere like Holkham. I need to gauge support for this quite quickly. If you are interested in cavorting on the beach in your capacity as an (E)SRCY member, please can you let me know on which Sundays in September you are available (7th,14th, 21st or 28th I believe). If there are sufficient numbers for a given Sunday then I'll crack on with making arrangements. I AM NOT GOING TO ARRANGE ONE PER SUNDAY TO CATER FOR EVERYONE.
Lastly, do please come and visit us in Norwich for the Country Meeting in July (10th - 13th). There will be a Barn Dance/Ceilidh at Hethersett Village Hall on Saturday evening where we will be entertained by the (in)famous Stedman Stompers. Details are available here.
